Activities on the Key
On the Beach
Anything that you can do on or in water can be done here too. Parasailing, wind-surfing, kite surfing, paddle boarding, jet skis, sailing, off beach and deep sea fishing, swimming, snorkeling cycling, and if the waves are up after a storm then boogie boards and body-surfing are great fun too. There are many rental companies for anything requiring equipment and most will deliver to your door and give lessons, you only have to ask. If you like to cycle then ask for beach bikes at the rental (street bikes are no good on sand). It’s a six mile round trip from one end to the other. Do the same on foot, either strolling, jogging or Nordic walking. Join the runners in the early morning or find a yoga class to join like this one: http://yogaonsiestabeach.com/.
Every Sunday evening there is the drum circle on the public beach area, rediscover your inner hippie. You can also just set up camp under a parasol and watch the world go by; it IS your vacation after all.
Off the Beach
Not much is written about cycling on the key, which is a shame because it is great. To fill in the gap I wrote a short guide which you can download and print here.
On the Inland Waterway
Siesta Key is more than just home to a fantastic beach. There is a completely different marine environment on and around the inland waterway. Here too you can rent boats, kayaks and paddleboards to explore the mangrove islands or just admire the waterside gardens of the large estates that dot the coast. Watch out for manatees, dolphins and jumping fish.
